Lawyer, soldier. Sharp, who later filled various public offices in Lexington, Ky., including chief of the fire department (1871-1875) and city attorney (1880-1881), as well as state treasurer, was one of the six Confederate soldiers who managed to capture Winchester (Clark County, Ky.) from two hundred Union cavalry in the Battle of Winchester, October 21, 1862.
